Overbased calcium sulfonate to design high-performance custom greases
Extend your offer with unique high-tech greases
SEQENS calcium sulfonate greases stand out from conventional greases with their standout compositions and their high performances in extreme conditions. Our unique production process is a key advantage for customizing greases with very specific and advanced features. We offer you the possibility to choose the best-fitted carrier, should it be a mineral, vegetable, or synthetic base oil.
KELICO® range
Based on calcium carbonate sulfonate technology, SEQENS greases exhibit outstanding resistance to corrosion as well as excellent extreme pressure and antiwear properties, without any additives. Their thermal and mechanical stability are key advantages for special applications with extreme conditions including warm and very moist atmospheres. SEQENS products outperform other types of complex greases in many ways. Their performances can be enhanced with supplementary additives.
KELICO® V biodegradable range
Our latest development – KELICO® V range – opens the door to biodegradable calcium sulfonate greases.
KELICO® V products enable the lubricants’ manufacturers to formulate environmentally acceptable lubricants with exceptional performances.
According to numerous industry standards, KELICO® V ester-based overbased calcium sulfonate greases are defined as biodegradable, non-bioaccumulative and non-toxic to aquatic species which makes them suitable candidates for applications where EALs are required. KELICO® V overbased calcium sulfonate greases are premium greases for high load and high temperature applications, suitable for extreme environment and particularly adapted for marine applications thanks to their resistance to water and their intrinsic anticorrosion performances.
KELICO® conventional range
KELICO® conventional greases are commonly used in industrial applications and are made from base oils thickened with specific agents, offering good lubrication, wear resistance, and corrosion protection. However, they may sometimes lack performance in extreme conditions such as high temperatures, heavy loads, or exposure to moisture.
On the other hand, calcium sulfonate greases represent a significant advancement. This type of grease is known for its ability to provide exceptional lubrication properties even in challenging environments, thanks to its enhanced thermal and mechanical stability. These greases are particularly effective in conditions where increased resistance to water and corrosion is required. Additionally, they meet strict environmental requirements, making them ideal for applications where environmental protection is a priority.
Calcium sulfonate technology optimizes lubricant performance while meeting higher safety and durability standards, making them suitable for sectors such as agriculture, marine equipment, and industrial applications that require both high-performance and environmentally friendly lubricants.
Custom grease offer
Carbonation is a key process in the formulation of greases based on calcium sulfonate technology. This chemical phenomenon enhances the properties of our lubricants, including their corrosion resistance, thermal stability, and ability to withstand extreme pressures. Thanks to this process, our greases deliver optimal performance even in the harshest conditions, while remaining environmentally friendly.
SEQENS successfully addresses the challenges faced by industry, relying on a dedicated R&D team and a performance testing laboratory. We have developed a solid ability to undertake and effectively carry out custom developments from kilo-lab to industrial scale, through a close collaboration between customers and SEQENS sales, R&D and production teams.
Our customers rely on our long-standing expertise, our reactivity and our flexibility to ensure a shortened length of development and industrialization projects. As a global player, SEQENS has implemented the appropriate organization to fully comply with worldwide regulations in the field of chemical safety, transportation and customs.

Extreme Pressure additives
Thanks to different process technologies, SEQENS propose a wide range of additive and package with customized features. Manufacturing with either sulfur, mercaptans or hydrogen sulfide enables formulation fine-tuning for neat and soluble oils, greases and industrial lubricants.

SEQENS extreme pressure additives are sulfurized molecules that provide resistance to high loads and combine good antiwear properties . The percentage of sulfur varies from 10% to 34% active or inactive.
Sulfurized olefins, sulfurized fatty acid esters, synthetic esters and sulfurized natural triglycerides are solutions to improve lubricity and withstand friction, wear and welding. They react with metal surface under heavy load, low and high temperatures and form a physical barrier that persists under extreme conditions, preventing metal to metal contact. Avoiding welding of surface asperities, extreme pressure additives improve surface finish and delay the onset of wear machine tools.
SULFAD® range
Formulate Environmentally friendly lubricants thanks to our SULFAD® light-colored and low odor sulfurized extreme pressure additives. They are part of our sustainable offer: SULFAD are based on minimum 50% of biosourced and biodegradable raw materials. They can be good candidates for biodegradable lubricants formulations (LuSC Listed).
ROSCAN® range
Some ROSCAN are produced from triglycerides, synthetic and natural fatty acid esters, they combine antiwear and extreme pressure performance as well as increasing lubricity.
Other ROSCAN are synthesized from olefin chains that enhance their solubility in mineral or synthetic oils or in hydrocarbon solvents, these extreme pressure additives have relatively low antiwear performance that can be combined effectively and synergistically with phosphorus-based additives.
Moreover, thanks to different processes, dark colored and light colored ROSCAN are available to offer wide possibilities of formulations.
- Sulfurized olefins : Synthesized from olefin chains that enhance their solubility in mineral or synthetic oils or in hydrocarbon solvents, these extreme pressure additives have relatively low antiwear performance that can be combined effectively and synergistically with phosphorous-based additives.
- Dark colored sulfurized esters : Produced from triglycerides, synthetic and natural fatty acid esters, they combine antiwear and extreme pressure performances as well as increasing lubricity.
- Light colored sulfurized esters : Prepared through specific routes of synthesis, these light colored additives provide a better visual monitoring during metalworking processes.
Extreme pressure packages
How to simplify supply complexity and accelerate new lubricants’ developments?
SEQENS offers ready-to-use additive packages to reduce supply chain complexity and costs as well as to facilitate production of finished lubricants.
We have studied synergies and optimum rates to get high performing and cost-effective packages that provide different performances depending on the application targeted.
Our customers hence increase the performance of their formulated lubricants while reducing the number of listed raw materials.
In the context of our CSR approach, we are focusing on developing low labeling packages of additives and safer substitutes to existing lubricants for our customers for their lubricant formulations.
- ROSCAN 527 NV : A package formulated from colored, thermally stable olefins and triarylphosphates. Particularly adapted for using in neat cutting oils, industrial lubricants and greases.
- ROSCAN 530 : A package combining extreme pressure and antiwear additives based on calcium, sulfur and phosphorous chemistry in mineral oil. Particularly adapted for metalworking, industrial lubricants and greases applications.
- ROSCAN 4000 : A package combining extreme pressure and anti-wear additives based on calcium, sulfur and phosphorous chemistry in vegetable oil. Particularly adapted for metalworking applications. It can be used for the formulation of neat cutting oils dedicated to medium to high severity ferrous metals metalworking operations such as drilling, tapping or threading as well as stamping operations.
Antiwear additives
Adjust metalworking fluid and industrial lubricants performances thanks to ROSCAN® antiwear additives.

Antiwear additives are used to improve wear resistance and the friction coefficient of industrial lubricants and metalworking fluids. They are based on phosphorous chemistry and are the most effective under low-load and low-temperature conditions.
Light colored, these additives are chlorine, phenol and sulfur free. They are either phosphite or phosphate esters. They provide both antiwear and antioxidant functionality to lubricants and metalworking fluids.
